IADSA Urban Regeneration Workshops
Cognitions builds on applied research developed through the IADSA Albania project in Vlora, Albania, in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan, Bashkia e Vlorës / Municipality of Vlora, CELIM Onlus, and IMM Design Lab, Politecnico di Milano.
The work was developed through multiple workshops and design charrettes with the Municipality of Milan, Bashkia e Vlorës / Municipality of Vlora, CELIM Onlus, and IMM Design Lab, Politecnico di Milano.
The project focused on a wider master planning and urban regeneration strategy for Vlora, connecting the city with Soda Forest, Narta Lagoon, existing settlements, mobility systems, public space, and protected natural landscapes.
The workshops addressed multiple layers of urban transformation, including waste management, environmental cleanup, public transportation, pedestrian and cycling connections, renewable energy strategies, solar panel integration, community infrastructure, and the inclusion of vulnerable communities, including the Roma community.
The work also considered the relationship between local development and broader European policy frameworks, especially around environmental protection, sustainable mobility, ecological restoration, and resilient territorial planning.
For Cognitions, the IADSA experience became a foundational reference for approaching urban regeneration as a strategic process: not only designing spaces, but aligning policy, ecology, infrastructure, energy, waste, mobility, and community life into one coherent territorial vision.
